Al Salone di New York del 2003 la Volvo ha presentato il suo Laboratorio Virtuale di design interattivo. Il Volvo Concept Lab, accessibile tramite internet, permette agli utenti di partecipare al design di potenziali veicoli Volvo, tramite la comunicazione diretta con i designers Volvo.
Secondo Vic Doolan, presidente e direttore generale di Volvo Cars Nord America, "Volvo si è sempre preoccupata per la gente che conduce i suoi veicoli, con il progetto Concept Lab andiamo ancora più in là". Tramite un form da compilare è possibile entrare in contatto con i designers Volvo ed esprimere le proprie idee ed i propri punti di vista su temi come la sicurezza, la salvaguardia dell'ambiente, lo stile e le dinamiche di guida.
Afferma Henrik Otto, chief designer di Volvo Cars : "Come designer, il nostro lavoro consiste nel creare tendenze, nonostante ciò, non possimo rimanere seduti in uno studio di design in Svezia e decidere che tipo di automobili deve condurre il resto del mondo".
Attualmente sul sito sono mostrati cinque modelli di stile che esplorano diverse tipologie di vetture, dal coupè sportivo al piccolo SUV. Sul sito ci sono inoltre informazioni particolareggiate sulle ultime Concept Cars presentate dalla Volvo, come la ACC che esprime il concetto di avventura e come la SCC che invece esplora il tema della sicurezza tanto caro alla marca svedese.

Currently on the site they have shown five models of style that explore different typologies of cars from the sporting coupe to the small SUV. On the site they are besides there detailed information on the last Concept Cars introduced from the Volvo as the ACC that it expresses the concept of adventure and as the SCC that instead explores the theme of the safety.
